Last time AVW
Controls went to Monte Carlo its work made such an
impression that the team has been asked back again!
A year ago AVW was briefed to provide the Monte Carlo
Ballet’s touring production of La Belle with six motorised
revolving doors, three on each side of the stage plus a
radio controlled stage truck.
|
Initially, due to budget restraints, the doors were
primarily functional, operated manually by a switch to allow
the dancers on and off stage. But as the tour progressed the
motorised doors grew to be a central part of the show, so
much so that the operator found it hard to keep up!
With this in mind, together with an increased budget, the
artistic director was able to develop his original idea and
approached AVW again to automate the doors using Impressario,
AVW’s award-winning system. The work took place earlier
this year and preludes a busy season of performances,
including a tour of Europe that will visit Montpellier in
October, Genoa in November, Monaco in December and Dijon in
May 2003.
Technical director for the Monte Carlo Ballet is Nick Van
der Heyden, who said: "In the days before Impressario
all the scenery was moved via manual controls, which are not
very precise, but with Impressario we can time all
movements, giving us complete control. We’re now able to
have a more adventurous set with increased movement, which
makes the show more interesting for the audience. I am not
only very impressed with AVW’s Impressario control system,
but also with its outstanding after sales service."
La Belle is Jean-Christophe Maillot’s take on the classic
ballet masterpiece The Sleeping Beauty and explores all
aspects of human relationships through dance and the music
of Tchaikovsky. Since being invited to become director and
principal choreographer of the Monte-Carlo Ballet in 1993,
Jean-Christophe Maillot has broadened and enriched the
company’s repertoire. La Belle opened on 27 December 2001
at the Grimaldi Forum, Monaco and has been praised by
critics and audiences alike. During its eight-day run in
Monaco last winter, more than 11,000 people flocked to see
it, making it another big success in Jean-Christophe
Maillot’s nine-year history with the company.
