Pegasus Power Flying

Winner of the ABTT Engineering Product of the year Award 2006

The Pegasus Power Flying solution, comprising the Alpha, Beta and Delta hoists is designed to complement the Impressario stage automation system, so that AVW can offer a complete power flying solution.

In collaboration with respected mechanical design engineer Mike Barnett MBE and Karris Engineering Ltd,  AVW have developed a range of hoists for use in theatre and entertainment venues, primarily for lifting scenery and lighting bars. The Alpha, Beta, and Delta hoists have a range of options to fit every conceivable requirement. Please contact us with your specific requirements.

Alpha Power Hoist

The Pegasus Alpha hoist is a fully featured multi-line helical-grooved drum hoist with fleet compensation and double silent monitored brakes that will lift loads of up to 500kg at speeds of up to 1.8 m/s.

The Pegasus hoist achieves zero-fleet wire rope payout by using a travelling sheave arrangement. This gives the advantage of using a smaller drum diameter which requires less motor torque but achieves fast wire-rope payout without the problems of excessive fleet angle or excessive header pulley height.

The Pegasus Alpha Hoist has a number of features including:
  • Travelling sheave for fleet compensated fast multi-wire payout
  • 500kg payload with 1.8m/S speed and better than 1mm positional accuracy
  • Load cell for constant measurement of actual load
  • DIN56950, BS7905 compliant mechanical design
  • DIN56925 compliant silent double brakes (<55dB) with monitoring,
  • Incremental and absolute encoder options
  • Slack rope detection option
  • Motor temperature monitoring option
  • Direct struck over-travel limit switch
  • Mounts at 300 mm centres horizontally or vertically
  • Noise level is 68dB at 1 meter when lifting 250kg at 1.8m/S

Beta Counterweight Assist Hoist

The Pegasus Beta counterweight assist hoist is used to convert traditional counterweight systems to powered flying. The Beta is a fleet compensated winch with double silent monitored brakes that mounts on 300mm centres and powers a replacement steel wire hauling line. Typically a 300kg counterweight system will be left half loaded and the Beta hoist will power the out of balance load, i.e. +/- 150kg at 1.5m/s. Optional features are constant weight monitoring and slack rope detection.

The Beta can also be used for horizontal stage machinery such as stage wagons.

Delta Point Hoist

The Delta point hoist is a fully featured helical drum hoist with travelling sheave fleet compensation, double silent monitored brakes that will lift loads of up to 250kg at speeds of up to 1.6 meters per second. The Delta is only 300mm wide so it can be easily maneuvered on a theatre or television studio grid. Optional features are constant weight monitoring and slack rope detection.
